Busy Busy Busy

We are in the process of doing some home renovations...some will be DIY and some we are hiring out.

My husband and I started a kitchen renovation. We are trying to open up our kitchen to the living room and to the breezeway which is a room that was once a porch between the house and the garage but at some point was enclosed. We use it as a dining room/sewing room/storage room.

We started by taking out an old breakfast bar and a peninsula.

Breakfast Bar

After removal of breakfast bar and one of the cabinets in the peninsula

Counter top removed from the remaining cabinets to be removed
and upper cabinet removed.  The refrigerator will go here.
We took out some cabinets and moved the refrigerator to give more space by the stove for prep work.  One of the cabinets that was in the island has been moved over next to the stove where the fridge was.

There is laminate flooring in the entire house, except for the breezeway.  It was not laid correctly and buckles and bulges all over. We will eventually replace it.  For now, we took out the flooring in the kitchen and then will put in matching flooring in both the kitchen and breezeway (dining room).

We are going to have the wall separating the kitchen and living room removed to open it up. We are hiring a contractor to do this work. Then there will be room for a kitchen island to increase prep space and provide the storage that was taken away by the removal of the kitchen peninsula.

After the wall is removed, we will have new flooring installed and new counter tops.  We are keeping the existing cabinets since they are in good shape.  The plan is to paint them.  We are also going to install beadbord on the exposed portions of the kitchen, which will for the most part be the soffit running around the ceiling above the cabinets and the the space above the counter tops.

Amazingly enough, we managed to remove the cabinets ourselves, move the fridge, switch the fridge doors to open in a different direction, and remove the existing flooring all without any blood being shed (either by a power tool or us going at each other LOL).

We have other things happening around our house as well.  New windows are going in at the end of March or early April.  We hope to have a new concrete porch poured soon.  These are both jobs that are hired out.

Lots to do....I can't wait until it is all done!
